Toyo Tire and Rubber Company
The Toyo Tire and Rubber Company was established in Japan in 1945. Toyo exported its first truck tire in 1947 and began exporting car tires to the United States in 1963. Today, Toyo Tires is one of the largest tire companies in the world with manufacturing facilities in multiple countries to support worldwide distribution. Along with tires, Toyo owns several other companies which manufacture a variety of auto parts such as: soft and rigid polyurethane bushings, anti-vibration rubber for car parts, motor mounts, engine mounts, seat cushions, cv joint boots, air suspension systems, and more.
Toyo focuses on manufacturing car tires that combine a variety of attributes like running stability, noise reduction, lateral vibration reduction, and fuel efficiency. Toyo uses computerized tire simulations in their design process to analyze shape changes where tires contact the road, vibration, friction, tire distortion and other tire conditions. By combining this computerized data with their driving simulations, Toyo is able to optimize their tires to suit a variety of vehicles and driving conditions.
Toyo Tires produces a variety of tires suitable for everyday road conditions or high-performance track driving. Toyo's basic tire models for passenger cars and minivans include the Versado LX, Proxes TPT, Toyo Spectrum. Their high-performance line of tires specifically designed for sports cars include the Proxes R1R, Proxes R888, Proxes T1R, Proxes 4, Proxes RA1, Proxes TPT, Proxes TS-1 and Proxes FZ4.
With the trends in rising fuel costs and environmental awareness, Toyo has recently focused on producing tires which not only increase fuel efficiency, but also use and environmentally-friendly manufacturing process to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Toyo tires increase fuel efficiency primarily by reducing the rolling resistance of the tire. Rolling resistance has been reduced through design changes as well as the use of silica mixing compounds in the tire itself. Some of Toyo's fuel efficient tires (reduced rolling resistance) include the Toyo TEO plus, Tranpath MP4, and Tranpath Ne.
