2010 Honda Insight
4.4
based on 1602 reviews
The 2010 Honda Insight hybrid is a 4-door, 5-passenger hatchback powered by the next generation of Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) technology that uses an electric motor between a 1.3-liter i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The electric motor aids propulsion, and in some steady cruising situations, it can propel the car for a short time without the aid of the engine. The engine produces 88 horsepower and 88 lb-ft of torque and combined output with the electric motor is 98 horsepower and 123 lb-ft of torque. Honda quotes fuel-economy ratings of 40/43 mpg city/hwy.

Pros: 1. Absolute 15-month average of 42.0 MPG by independent calculation (miles traveled/ total gallons of gas purchased). 2. Rack-and-pinion steering that feels very sure. 3. Front disc brakes combined with rear drum brakes (recommended for actual short stopp
Cons: 1. Does not seem to "coast" as far or freely as did the 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid that it replaced--but that might be purely a function of mass, as the Camry Hybrid was much heavier (and of course only averaged 35 mpg overall). 2.

Cons: No mirrors on the passengers' seats nor driver's, no cruise control, no space for miscalenius
Pros: Gas usage is great, saves a lot
I bought the car "fresh", with 0 miles on it, and not the first hybrid in my life. As a normal hybrid car it does save a lot of gas for you. However the car itself is way simple - there is no cruise control or even passenger's/driver's mirror to look at!

"I wanted the original one but was waiting for my 1997 Tacoma to wear out first and then Honda stopped making the Insight. Found a used 2010 LX trade in for a good price with low miles and was not going to let it happen again so now I have both. Just started driving it in October and was flirting with 49-50mpg on my daily commute when the temperature dropped and am now averaging 46mpg here in New England. The Tacoma gets 19mpg.

Pros:I bought it for the gas milage and am happy with it. With gas at $3.50 a gal. and I am getting 42 mile per gal. average city and hwy. I spend 2 1/2 hours in this car daily going back and forth to work and it's all that I had hoped it would be, comfortable to drive and great gas milage.
Cons:I wish the front seats went back further for more front seat leg room.
Overall review:A good car for the price that will hold it's value for a long time.

"Bought this car after my 1998 V70 Volvo wagon died. The hatchback is great for our dog, plenty of space. The cons only come out on long trips. The air-filtration system is not good, so when I am in a traffic jam I smell a lot of pollution in the car as compared to the Volvo. Also, there is a lot of road noise when driving fast on the highway. The stereo system is tinny.

"I just got this car last week. I was looking for a hatchback that good fuel economy. I previously owned a Toyota Corolla and was looking for a car with more personality. I also wanted to try a Honda. The exterior styling of the car is really cool and I like the small size of the car. The rear visibility of the back window is poor but I got used to it quickly. The interior dash panel is kind of 80's retro looking. Some of the interior feels cheap to me especially the plastic along the doors.

"The Insight is a super-fun little car. It reminds me of my mom's Honda CVCC in the 70's, quick, agile and full of life. And, the most fun part is that it gets close to 50 MPG. In 13 months it still gets 47-49 MPG, and with gas here in Hawaii at $4.32 gal, that really keeps it fun! The only draw back is acceleration, but the gizmos on the dash tell you (and prompt you) to keep fast starts to a minimum."

Summary: This car is an excellent alternative to the PRIUS.Yes, Prius gives better gas mileage than the Insight, but comparing the "True cost to own" values over a 5 year period, Insight looks a better alternative. Mileage : I have achieved anywhere between 40-55 mpg while driving at a speed of 30-40 mph.And about 40-45 mpg when I drive at 70 mph.

Pros:I have had this vehicle for a little over a month and it impresses me with better mpgs than advertised, the electronic touches that help me increase mileage and its handling. I'm not sure what was up with the Consumer Reports people saying it is choppy. I disagree. I also like the driving position and squirm room. To date I am averaging just over 45mpg with one highway trip at 55mpg over 110 miles.
Cons:Rear view mirror view is not very good.

Pros:I recently bought the 2010 Insight Hybrid and I am very impressed. My first trip, 200 miles south, and I achieved over 50 mpg!! The indicators are easy to follow and it is fun to see how I am doing with mileage. Pretty impressive! Coming back....going up in altitude, I got 4l mpg. I had no idea it was actually "downhill" to Tulsa from Kansas City!! Nice car. Like it.
Cons:I am curious why the gas tank lid does not lock....

But so far the car is extremely comfortable and my views of a Hybrid car has changed for the better. Hondas fit and finish has always been top notch and it shows on the Insight as well.

Pros: Comfortable driver's seat. Attractive (in a standard hybridy sort of way). Easy to park. Better mileage than most of today's other cars. Decent sound system. Affordable. Gives you solid "Green cred."
Cons: Feels tinny. Distracting and confusing dash layout. No rear legroom. Tiny hatchback. Econo mode unusable for city driving in hot climates. Jerky stops.

Pros: Gas mileage. Pretty snappy to drive. Honda does a great job of designing an interior that just very functional. Rides very smooth for a small car. Lots of guages and colors to constantly keep you aware of gas savings. Much nicer looking than the Prius.
Cons: I don't like how it just auto-stops the gas engine when you come to a stop because the A/C gets warmer or the heater gets cooler.
